Stand for Children, an advocacy group for children and education issues in Massachusetts, will hold a rally for school funding in front of the MA Statehouse on April 25 at 12:30 p.m., on Boston Common near the Park Street T station.
Past rallies by this group have had impressive speakers and reflect the best of broad based citizen advocacy in Massachusetts.
Statewide school funding is an important social justice issue. Currently, in the United States, much public school funding comes from local property taxes, so children in richer neighborhoods get more educational resources. This issue traditionally gets a strong turnout from political liberals and progressives. My own view is that it is especially important for political moderates and believers in American enterprise to let your voice be heard on the issue of equal opportunity and fair access for all children to a quality education.
